SINGER, GUITAR, LECTURER
Alan MacEwen
For 35 years, Alan MacEwen has been the lead singer and guitar player for Washington, DC’s The Grandsons. His musical journey has included multiple recordings, travel to far-flung locales such as Europe, China, and El Salvador, and performances with legends like Ronnie Spector and Willie Nelson. His solo performances often include a cowboy song or two, some New Orleans jazz, old country songs, and even his own compositions. His audience-focused performances are always warm and engaging. It doesn’t take much provocation to get him to reach for his very first instrument, the trumpet, which he still loves to add into the mix.
Decades ago when Alan MacEwen stood in front of the chalkboard in 7th grade history class to give his oral report about the European Common Market, he was nearly frozen with stage fright. He eked out a generous ‘C’ from the teacher for the resulting fiasco. Fast-forward to the present, and you would never suspect this engaging, confident public speaker with a fancy degree from Duke University is the same person. Alan has been lecturing on the retirement community circuit for four years now and loves few things more than engaging with a curious and enthusiastic audience.
What Clients Have Said About This Performer:
“Thank you so much for sending this! Our residents loved the lecture on Elvis Presley yesterday and talked to him about coming next month to do the Life & Music of Frank Sinatra.”
“Wanted you to know that the residents enjoyed Alan. He plays the guitar and trumpet. He brought all his equipment and the residents seemed engaged.”

From an early age, her mother, Peggie Casey-Likas—born in Mitchelstown, County Cork—instilled in Kaitlyn and her siblings a deep appreciation for their cultural heritage. As a first-generation Irish American, Kaitlyn remains highly active in the Irish community throughout Virginia, DC, and Maryland, proudly embracing and celebrating her roots.
Kaitlyn began her dance training at age four in Scottish Highland dance, as Irish dance was not available in Southern Maryland where she grew up. In high school, she began studying Irish dance with the Hunt and Broesler schools in Annapolis and Baltimore, earning numerous competition titles and regional championships. At just 14 years old, she was honored with the “Best Maryland Dancer” award.
During high school, Kaitlyn and her sister Jessica founded the Irish music and dance duo The Wild Irish Roses. The sisters won “First Place Performing Arts” in the 2017 Alexandria St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Originally a classically trained violinist for over a decade, Kaitlyn later taught herself the fiddle and has since become one of the region’s most sought-after Celtic musicians.
She is the only female fiddler to have performed with the Baltimore-based Irish punk band The Charm City Saints, who have contributed music to various Irish films and documentaries. Kaitlyn has also performed with Black 47, O’Malley’s March, Celtica, The Fighting Jamesons, Capital Celtic, The Devil’s Tailors, The Thistle & The Rose, Baltic Celtic, and The Gobshites. In 2018, she was featured in Celtic Life International Magazine and recognized as “Female Fiddler of the Day” by Fair Lady Fiddlers.
Kaitlyn has performed at major Irish and Celtic festivals along the East Coast, including ShamrockFest, and has graced the stages of The Kennedy Center, numerous Highland games, festivals, restaurants, and pubs. One career highlight was performing before Her Excellency Anne Anderson, former Ambassador of Ireland, in Kingstowne, Virginia.
In 2022, Kaitlyn represented Washington, DC as the “Washington DC Mary” in the Mary from Dungloe International Arts Festival in Donegal, Ireland—a role she held for several years due to pandemic delays. While in Ireland, she performed and spoke at numerous events and was interviewed by RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and Highland Radio. During her time there, she also toured with Irish music superstar Daniel O’Donnell.
Kaitlyn has served as a member of the Culture Caucus at The Kennedy Center, representing Ireland, and performed eight times for Ireland 100: Celebrating a Century of Irish Arts & Culture. She has performed for Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at an Ancient Order of Hibernians reception in Washington, DC, and for former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in Ohio at the presentation of the Seán MacBride Humanitarian Award.
